London Cruises
The beautiful city of London is the capital of the United Kingdom and by far the largest
city in all of Europe. For centuries, London has been deemed one of the most influential
and prosperous cities in the entire world. The city dates back to 50 AD, when the Roman's
built the first bridge in London. Today, London is a modern day metropolis that is
immensely proud of its rich history. It is a city that has experienced
many trials and tribulations, but through a resilient spirit, London has celebrated
numerous victories. During World War II, Hitler promised England that they would have to
give up their little island. After enduring unremitting bombing raids at the hands of
Hitler, the Axis powers were defeated and London remained free. Because of London's
colorful past and the art and architecture that has been left behind as a result of it,
London is one of the most frequently visited cities in the world.
Beautiful Architecture
There is such an abundant of things to do and see while in London that vacationers will
already be planning their next trip back before they have even left the city. A definite
must while in London is a trip to Buckingham Palace. Although the British do
not consider the Royal family a major political power, the rest of the world remains
enamored with them. Home to the Royal family since 1837, tourists will take delight in
watching the changing of the guard. The changing of the guard occurs everyday during
summer months and every other day in the winter. Another structure that acts as a
representative to London is Big Ben. This historical clock tower has a 700-pound pendulum
that keeps the precise time. Located in Parliament Square, the tower is attached to the
Houses of Parliament. Historical Tower Hill is home to both the Tower of London and the
Tower Bridge. Built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror to intimidate the city
that was not ready to accept him as their ruler, the Tower of London was
used as a prison and execution center in medieval days. The beautiful craftsmanship that
went into making the Tower Bridge makes it one of the most esteemed bridges in the world.
In the 18th century, Queen Caroline and Princess Augusta founded the Royal Botanic Garden.
Over 60,00 different species of plants grow beautifully across 300 acres.
Shakespeare, London's Most Famous Son
London is a city where much creative genius has flowed. London's most famous son was of
course William Shakespeare. Shakespeare's Globe Theatre has been revitalized in recent
years. The thatched roof and natural lighting have returned the theater to its natural
state. The most famous plays ever written have been performed on this stage for centuries.
The Royal Opera House and the British Museum have both also undergone vast renovation
projects. The British Museum is considered to be one of the best in the world not only for
its opulent architecture but also for its exhibits and displays.
A Fashionable City
London is fast becoming a city that is considered ultra hip and chic by the rest of the
world. The clothes offered by designers are unique and beautiful. Tourists will find
styles that they won't be able to find anywhere else. Hundreds of restaurants await
vacationers. No matter what type of food the palate craves, London has a solution.
Finally, after a day of shopping, eating and sightseeing, step out on the town and enjoy
any of London's various nightspots.
European Vacation Cruises
Almost everyday throughout the year, cruise ships travel up the Thames River and deposit
throngs of vacationers on the shores on London. London acts as a stopping point as well as
a departure city for many cruise lines. If departing from London, it is recommended that
vacationers arrive a few days early in order to have plenty of time to experience this
wonderful city. Cruise ships stop here and in many other magnificent European cities such
as Cannes, Barcelona, Rome and Venice.
